“Recent Legionella outbreaks in the CBD indicate that something has gone wrong inside a cooling tower,” says FlowMatrix General Manager, Jason Christensen.
If water treatment failed, so have the mechanical components such as drift eliminators, explains Jason. “In regard to cooling tower maintenance, we have to focus on secondary protection (mechanical components) as well as the primary protection (water treatment). People should not be getting sick – something is wrong for this to be occurring.”
It is vital that cooling tower parts such as drift eliminators, as well as corrosion issues, are checked regularly in order to prevent cooling tower legionella outbreaks.
